Maghi
Maghi is a traditional festival celebrated primarily in the northern regions of India and Pakistan, particularly by the Punjabi community. It usually falls in January, marking the end of winter and the beginning of the harvest season. The festival is associated with the Makar Sankranti festival and is celebrated with various cultural activities, including singing, dancing, and feasting on special foods.
During Maghi, people often gather at rivers or lakes to take holy dips, which is believed to purify the soul. The festival also commemorates the martyrdom of the Forty Martyrs of Sikhism, who sacrificed their lives for their faith. Celebrations include community meals, known as langar, where people share food regardless of their background.
