M38, also known as the M38 star cluster, is an open star cluster located in the constellation Auriga. It is approximately 4,000 light-years away from Earth and contains around 100 stars. M38 is notable for its bright and colorful stars, making it a popular target for amateur astronomers.
Discovered by the astronomer Giovanni Batista Hodierna in the 17th century, M38 is often observed alongside other nearby clusters, such as M36 and M37. The cluster is estimated to be about 220 million years old, showcasing a mix of young and older stars within its boundaries.
