Lunatic (Madness)
"Lunatic" is a term historically used to describe individuals experiencing severe mental illness or madness. The word originates from the belief that changes in the moon, or lunar phases, could influence a person's mental state. Although once commonly used, the term is now considered outdated and stigmatizing.
In modern psychology, mental health conditions are classified using specific diagnostic criteria. Conditions such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and severe depression may lead to episodes of madness, but these are understood through a medical lens. Today, mental health awareness promotes understanding and compassion rather than labeling individuals as "lunatics."
