Lucius Sergius Catilina
Lucius Sergius Catilina, commonly known as Catiline, was a Roman politician and senator in the late Roman Republic. He is best known for his involvement in a conspiracy to overthrow the Roman government in 63 BCE, which aimed to assassinate key political figures, including the consul Marcus Tullius Cicero. Catiline's actions were driven by his desire for power and discontent with the political elite.
The conspiracy was exposed by Cicero, who delivered a series of speeches that revealed Catiline's plans to the Senate. Following the exposure, Catiline fled Rome but was later defeated in battle by government forces. His legacy is often associated with treachery and political intrigue in ancient Rome.
