Lucius Cornelius Sulla was a Roman general and statesman who lived from 138 BC to 78 BC. He is best known for his role in the Roman Republic during a time of political turmoil. Sulla gained fame for his military successes in the Social War and later in the Mithridatic Wars, where he fought against King Mithridates VI of Pontus.
In 82 BC, Sulla became the first general to march on Rome with his army, seizing control of the city. He later implemented a series of reforms aimed at strengthening the power of the Senate and reducing the influence of popular assemblies. Sulla's actions set a precedent for future military leaders in Roman politics.
