Little penguins
Little penguins, also known as fairy penguins, are the smallest species of penguin, standing about 12 to 13 inches tall. They are native to the southern coast of Australia and New Zealand. These birds have a distinctive blue and white plumage, which helps them blend into the ocean when viewed from above.
Little penguins primarily feed on small fish, squid, and crustaceans. They are known for their unique behavior of returning to shore in groups at dusk after a day of fishing. Their breeding season typically occurs from July to February, during which they build nests in burrows or under vegetation.
