Leveling Rod
A leveling rod is a long, straight tool used in surveying and construction to measure vertical distances. It is typically made of lightweight materials like aluminum or fiberglass and features graduated markings along its length. Surveyors use leveling rods in conjunction with a theodolite or laser level to ensure that structures are built accurately and to the correct height.
When using a leveling rod, one person holds it vertically at a specific point, while another person looks through the instrument to read the measurement. This process helps determine differences in elevation, which is crucial for tasks such as grading land, laying foundations, and installing drainage systems.
