Lefkoşa Turkish Republic
The Lefkoşa Turkish Republic, also known as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), is a self-declared state located in the northern part of the island of Cyprus. It was established in 1983, following the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, which was prompted by a coup aimed at uniting the island with Greece. The TRNC is recognized only by Turkey and operates with its own government and institutions.
The capital city of the TRNC is Lefkoşa, which is also known as Nicosia in the Greek-speaking south. The region has a distinct culture influenced by both Turkish and Cypriot traditions. Despite its limited international recognition, the TRNC has developed its own economy and educational system, attracting students and tourists, particularly from Turkey.
