Lao monarchy
The Lao monarchy refers to the historical royal system in Laos, which existed until the mid-20th century. The monarchy was established in the 14th century with the founding of the Lan Xang Kingdom, known for its rich culture and significant influence in Southeast Asia. The last king, Savang Vatthana, ruled until the monarchy was abolished in 1975.
After the end of the monarchy, Laos became a communist state under the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. The royal family faced exile, and many members were imprisoned or disappeared. Today, the legacy of the Lao monarchy is remembered through cultural traditions and historical sites.
