Lanzón
The Lanzón is a significant monolithic sculpture located in the ancient site of Chavín de Huantar in Peru. Dating back to around 900 BCE, it is carved from granite and stands about 4.5 meters tall. The sculpture features a complex design, including human and animal motifs, and is believed to have played a central role in the religious practices of the Chavín civilization.
The Lanzón is housed in a subterranean temple, where it was likely used in rituals and ceremonies. Its name, which means "large lance" in Spanish, reflects its elongated shape. The Lanzón is considered a masterpiece of pre-Columbian art and is a key symbol of the cultural heritage of ancient Peru.
