Kurdish Democratic Union Party
The Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) is a political party in Syria that represents the interests of the Kurdish population. Founded in 2003, it aims to promote Kurdish rights and autonomy within the country. The PYD is closely associated with the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) and has played a significant role in the Syrian Civil War, particularly in the establishment of autonomous regions known as Rojava.
The party advocates for a democratic and pluralistic society, emphasizing gender equality and environmental sustainability. The PYD has formed alliances with various groups, including the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), to combat extremist groups like ISIS and to secure Kurdish self-governance in northern Syria.
