Kumari Devi
Kumari Devi, often referred to as the "Living Goddess," is a traditional practice in Nepal, particularly in the Kathmandu Valley. She is a young prepubescent girl chosen from the Newar community and is believed to be the physical embodiment of the goddess Taleju. The selection process involves rigorous criteria, including physical attributes and astrological signs.
Once chosen, Kumari Devi lives in the Kumari Ghar (Kumari's residence) and participates in various religious ceremonies and festivals. Her reign continues until she reaches puberty, after which a new Kumari is selected. The practice is deeply rooted in Nepalese culture and spirituality.
