Kumari
The term "Kumari" refers to a living goddess worshipped in the Hindu and Buddhist traditions, particularly in Nepal. A Kumari is a young prepubescent girl who is believed to be the physical embodiment of the goddess Taleju. She is chosen through a rigorous selection process and is revered in various religious ceremonies and festivals.
Once selected, the Kumari lives in the Kumari Ghar, a palace in Kathmandu, and is considered a symbol of purity and divinity. Her reign lasts until she reaches puberty, after which she returns to normal life. The tradition reflects deep cultural beliefs about femininity and spirituality in Nepalese society.
