Kukui Nut
The Kukui nut, also known as the candlenut, is the seed of the Aleurites molucanna tree, native to tropical regions, particularly in Hawaii. The nut is round and has a hard shell, containing a high oil content that makes it useful for various applications. Traditionally, it has been used in cooking, as well as for making candles and lamps due to its ability to burn slowly.
In addition to its practical uses, the Kukui nut holds cultural significance in Hawaiian traditions. It is often used in jewelry and lei-making, symbolizing light and protection. The oil extracted from the nut is also used in cosmetics and skin care products for its moisturizing properties.
