Korean Zen
Korean Zen, known as Seon, is a form of Zen Buddhism that emphasizes meditation and direct experience. It originated in Korea during the 7th century and has roots in both Chinese Chan and Indian Buddhism. Seon practitioners focus on achieving enlightenment through seated meditation, known as zazen, and engaging in daily activities with mindfulness.
The teachings of Korean Zen often highlight the importance of the Bodhidharma, the legendary founder of Zen, and the concept of hwadu, a meditative question or phrase that helps practitioners deepen their understanding. Seon encourages a simple, direct approach to spirituality, fostering a connection to the present moment.
