Kittur Chennamma
Kittur Chennamma was a prominent Indian queen of the princely state of Kittur in Karnataka. Born in 1778, she is celebrated for her bravery and leadership during the early 19th century. Chennamma fought against the British East India Company to protect her kingdom's sovereignty, particularly during the First Anglo-Maratha War.
Her resistance began in 1824 when the British attempted to annex Kittur after the death of her husband. Chennamma led her troops into battle, showcasing remarkable courage. Although ultimately captured, her legacy as a symbol of resistance and empowerment continues to inspire many in India today.
