Khilafat Movement
The Khilafat Movement was a political campaign in India during the early 20th century, aimed at protecting the authority of the Ottoman Empire and its leader, the Caliph. Following World War I, the empire faced disintegration, prompting Indian Muslims to unite against British colonial rule and support the Caliphate. The movement sought to mobilize public opinion and pressure the British government to preserve the Caliph's position.
Led by prominent figures like Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Ali Brothers, the Khilafat Movement gained significant traction among Muslims in India. It was closely linked to the broader struggle for Indian independence, as it encouraged Hindu-Muslim unity against colonialism. However, the movement eventually declined after the abolition of the Caliphate in 1924.
