Keratodermas
Keratodermas are a group of skin disorders characterized by thickened areas of skin, often on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. These conditions can be inherited or acquired and may vary in appearance and severity. Common types include palmoplantar keratoderma and epidermolytic hyperkeratosis.
The thickening occurs due to an overproduction of keratin, a protein that helps protect the skin. Symptoms may include pain, discomfort, and cracking of the skin. Treatment options often focus on managing symptoms and may include topical therapies, moisturizers, or in some cases, surgical interventions.
