Karma Kagyu
Karma Kagyu is one of the major schools of Tibetan Buddhism, known for its emphasis on meditation and the teachings of Mahamudra. Founded in the 12th century by Karma Pakshi, it is part of the larger Kagyu tradition, which focuses on the transmission of teachings through a lineage of masters.
The school is characterized by its unique practices, including the use of vajrayana techniques and the importance of the teacher-student relationship. The current head of the Karma Kagyu lineage is the 17th Karmapa, who plays a vital role in preserving and spreading its teachings worldwide.
