17th Karmapa
The 17th Karmapa, known as Ogyen Trinley Dorje, is a prominent figure in Tibetan Buddhism and the head of the Kagyu school. Born in 1985 in Tibet, he was recognized as the reincarnation of the 16th Karmapa at a young age. He escaped to India in 2000, where he has since been active in promoting Buddhist teachings and environmental issues.
The Karmapa lineage is one of the oldest in Tibetan Buddhism, dating back to the 12th century. The 17th Karmapa has worked to bridge traditional practices with modern concerns, emphasizing the importance of compassion and mindfulness in today’s world.
