Karluk Expedition
The Karluk Expedition was a 1913 Arctic exploration mission led by Vilhjalmur Stefansson to study the Canadian Arctic and its indigenous peoples. The expedition aimed to gather scientific data and explore the region's geography, but it faced numerous challenges, including harsh weather conditions and limited supplies.
In 1914, the expedition's ship, the Karluk, became trapped in ice near Wrangel Island. After months of struggle, the crew was forced to abandon the ship. Only a few members survived the harsh conditions, and the expedition ultimately highlighted the difficulties of Arctic exploration during that era.
