Kalmyk language
The Kalmyk language is a member of the Mongolic language family, primarily spoken by the Kalmyk people in the Kalmykia region of Russia. It is closely related to other Mongolic languages, such as Buryat and Mongolian. Kalmyk is written using the Cyrillic script, which was adopted in the 1940s, although it has historical ties to the traditional Mongolian script.
Kalmyk is recognized as a minority language in Russia and has around 100,000 speakers. Efforts are being made to preserve and promote the language through education and cultural initiatives, as it plays a vital role in the identity of the Kalmyk community.
