Kalmyk People
The Kalmyk people are a unique ethnic group primarily residing in the Kalmykia region of Russia. They are descendants of the Oirat Mongols, who migrated to the area in the 17th century. The Kalmyks have their own language, known as Kalmyk, which is part of the Mongolic language family, and they practice a form of Buddhism that is influenced by Tibetan traditions.
Historically, the Kalmyks are known for their nomadic lifestyle, herding livestock such as sheep and horses. They have a rich cultural heritage that includes traditional music, dance, and crafts. Despite facing challenges, including forced deportation during World War II, the Kalmyk people continue to preserve their identity and traditions today.
