Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism
The Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism is one of the four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism, known for its emphasis on meditation and the direct experience of enlightenment. Founded in the 11th century by the Indian master Marpa, it was further developed by his student Milarepa, a renowned yogi and poet. The school teaches various meditation techniques, including the practice of Mahamudra, which focuses on the nature of mind.
The Kagyu lineage is characterized by its transmission of teachings through a series of spiritual teachers, known as lamas. The school places great importance on the teacher-student relationship, with teachings often passed down orally. Today, the Kagyu school continues to thrive, with many monasteries and practitioners around the world.
