KMT
The KMT, or Kuomintang, is a political party in Taiwan that has played a significant role in the island's history. Founded in 1912, the KMT originally aimed to unify China and establish a republic. After losing the Chinese Civil War to the Communist Party of China in 1949, the KMT retreated to Taiwan, where it continued to govern and promote its vision of a unified China.
Over the years, the KMT has shifted its focus from strict nationalism to a more moderate approach, emphasizing economic development and democratic governance. Today, the party competes with the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for political power in Taiwan, reflecting the island's diverse political landscape.
