Kuomintang
The Kuomintang (KMT), also known as the Nationalist Party of China, was founded in 1912 by Sun Yat-sen. It played a significant role in the early 20th century, aiming to unify China and establish a republic. The KMT was instrumental in the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty and sought to modernize the country through various reforms.
After a civil war with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the KMT retreated to Taiwan in 1949, where it continued to govern. The party maintained a strong anti-communist stance and promoted economic development, leading to Taiwan's rapid industrialization. Today, the KMT remains a major political party in Taiwan.
