K-278
K-278, also known as K-278 Komsomolets, was a Soviet nuclear-powered attack submarine. Launched in 1983, it was part of the Soviet Navy and designed for deep-sea operations. The submarine was notable for its advanced technology and capabilities, including the ability to carry nuclear missiles.
In April 1989, K-278 suffered a catastrophic fire while on a mission in the Barents Sea. The incident resulted in the loss of 42 crew members and highlighted the dangers associated with submarine operations. Despite the tragedy, K-278 was eventually salvaged and remains a significant part of naval history.
