Jose Palma
Jose Palma was a Filipino poet, journalist, and revolutionary born on February 3, 1876, in the town of San Fernando, Pampanga. He is best known for writing the lyrics to the Philippine National Anthem, titled "Lupang Hinirang," which was originally a poem called "Himno Nacional Filipino." Palma's work played a significant role in the Philippine struggle for independence from Spanish colonial rule.
In addition to his contributions to literature, Palma was an active participant in the Philippine Revolution and a member of the Katipunan, a secret society that sought to gain independence from Spain. He also served as the editor of several newspapers and was involved in various political movements throughout his life. Jose Palma passed away on February 26, 1903.
