José Palma
José Palma was a Filipino poet, journalist, and revolutionary born on February 3, 1876, in Manila, Philippines. He is best known for writing the lyrics to the Philippine National Anthem, titled “Lupang Hinirang.” Palma's work played a significant role in the Philippine Revolution against Spanish colonial rule.
In addition to his contributions to literature, José Palma was an active participant in the Katipunan, a revolutionary society that sought independence for the Philippines. He also served as a member of the Malolos Congress, which was responsible for drafting the first republican constitution in Asia. Palma's legacy continues to be celebrated in Philippine history.
