Jonas Basanavičius
Jonas Basanavičius was a prominent Lithuanian physician, politician, and public figure, born on November 23, 1851. He is best known for his role in the Lithuanian national revival and for advocating for the cultural and political rights of Lithuanians during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Basanavičius was instrumental in the establishment of the Lithuanian National Museum and contributed to various publications that promoted Lithuanian language and culture.
In 1918, Basanavičius played a key role in the declaration of Lithuania's independence from Russia. He served as a member of the Council of Lithuania and was a signatory of the Act of Independence. His efforts helped lay the foundation for modern Lithuania, and he is often referred to as the "Father of the Nation" for his significant contributions to Lithuanian identity and statehood.
