Johnny Torrio
Johnny Torrio was an influential Italian-American mobster born on January 20, 1882, in Italy. He moved to the United States as a child and became a key figure in organized crime during the early 20th century. Torrio is best known for his role in the Chicago Outfit, where he helped establish a powerful criminal organization involved in illegal activities such as bootlegging and gambling.
Torrio mentored Al Capone, one of the most notorious gangsters in American history. In 1920, he took control of the Chicago Outfit and expanded its operations significantly. After surviving an assassination attempt in 1925, Torrio retired and handed over control to Capone, solidifying his legacy in the world of organized crime.
