John Loudon McAdam
John Loudon McAdam was a Scottish civil engineer born in 1756, best known for developing a new method of road construction. His innovative technique involved using small, broken stones to create a durable and smooth surface, which significantly improved the quality of roads. This method, known as Macadamization, became widely adopted and transformed road building in the 19th century.
McAdam's work laid the foundation for modern road engineering and influenced the development of transportation infrastructure. His ideas were recognized internationally, and he was appointed as the Surveyor General of Roads in Scotland. McAdam passed away in 1836, leaving a lasting legacy in civil engineering.
