João IV of Portugal
João IV of Portugal was the King of Portugal from 1640 until his death in 1656. He was born on March 18, 1604, and became the first monarch of the House of Braganza. His reign marked the restoration of Portuguese independence from Spain, which had ruled Portugal for 60 years during the Iberian Union.
João IV is often referred to as the "Restorer" because he led the successful revolt against Spanish rule. His leadership helped to re-establish Portugal's sovereignty and strengthen its national identity. He also supported the arts and culture, contributing to the flourishing of Portuguese literature and music during his reign.
