Jean de France
Jean de France, also known as Jean de Berry, was a prominent French nobleman born in 1340. He was the Duke of Berry and played a significant role in the politics of medieval France. Jean was known for his patronage of the arts, which helped to foster the development of Gothic art and manuscript illumination during his time.
He was a member of the Valois dynasty and the brother of King Charles V of France. Jean de France is often remembered for his lavish court and the commissioning of important works, including the famous Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry, a beautifully illustrated book of hours that remains a masterpiece of medieval art.
