Japanese invasions of Korea
The Japanese invasions of Korea, also known as the Imjin War, occurred between 1592 and 1598. These invasions were initiated by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the Japanese leader, who aimed to conquer Korea and eventually China. The conflict involved large-scale military campaigns and significant battles, with Japan initially achieving rapid success.
Korea, supported by the Ming Dynasty of China, mounted a strong resistance. Key figures like Admiral Yi Sun-sin played crucial roles in defending against the invaders, particularly through naval battles. Ultimately, the invasions ended in failure for Japan, leading to a withdrawal and significant devastation in Korea.
