Jacobite uprising of 1745
The Jacobite uprising of 1745 was a rebellion aimed at restoring the Stuart dynasty to the British throne. Led by Charles Edward Stuart, also known as "Bonnie Prince Charlie," the uprising began in Scotland and sought to reclaim the crown for his father, James Francis Edward Stuart, who was exiled.
The uprising gained initial support and saw several victories, including the notable Battle of Prestonpans. However, it ultimately ended in defeat at the Battle of Culloden in April 1746. This defeat marked the end of the Jacobite cause and led to harsh reprisals against the Scottish clans involved.
