Izz al-Din Usama, also known as Usama ibn Munqidh, was a 12th-century Syrian poet, diplomat, and military leader. He was born in 1095 in Shayzar, a town in modern-day Syria. Usama belonged to a prominent family and served various rulers, including the Zengid dynasty.
