Israeli West Bank barrier
The Israeli West Bank barrier is a series of fences and walls built by Israel, primarily starting in 2002. Its main purpose is to enhance security by preventing unauthorized crossings and reducing violence, particularly during the Second Intifada. The barrier stretches approximately 440 miles and runs along and within the West Bank.
The construction of the barrier has been a subject of controversy. Supporters argue it has significantly decreased attacks against Israelis, while critics claim it disrupts the lives of Palestinians and encroaches on their land. The barrier's route often deviates from the Green Line, the internationally recognized border between Israel and the West Bank.
