Ischemic Optic Neuropathy
Ischemic Optic Neuropathy (ION) is a condition that occurs when blood flow to the optic nerve is reduced, leading to vision loss. This can happen due to various factors, including diabetes, high blood pressure, or arterial occlusion. There are two main types: anterior and posterior, with anterior being more common and often associated with sudden vision loss.
Symptoms of ION typically include blurred vision, visual field defects, and sometimes pain. Diagnosis usually involves a comprehensive eye examination and imaging tests. Treatment options may focus on managing underlying conditions and improving blood flow, but there is no guaranteed way to restore lost vision.
