Irish Kings
Irish kings were rulers of various kingdoms in ancient and medieval Ireland. Each kingdom, known as a tuath, had its own king, who was often chosen from a noble family. These kings held power over their lands, managed local disputes, and led their people in times of war. The most powerful kings could unite several tuaths under their rule, creating larger kingdoms.
The title of High King of Ireland was a prestigious position, representing a symbolic leader among the various regional kings. The Hill of Tara was traditionally seen as the seat of the High Kings, where important ceremonies and gatherings took place.
