Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a specialized fertility treatment used to help couples conceive. In this procedure, a single sperm is directly injected into an egg, bypassing many barriers that can prevent fertilization. This technique is particularly useful for men with low sperm counts or poor sperm quality.
ICSI is often performed as part of in vitro fertilization (IVF). After the eggs are retrieved from the female partner, they are placed in a dish with the selected sperm. If successful, the fertilized egg can then be transferred to the uterus, increasing the chances of pregnancy.
