Intercalary Meristem
Intercalary meristem is a type of plant tissue found primarily at the base of leaves and internodes. It plays a crucial role in the growth of grasses and other monocots, allowing them to elongate quickly after being grazed or cut. This meristematic tissue enables the plant to recover rapidly and continue growing.
Unlike apical meristems, which are located at the tips of roots and shoots, intercalary meristems are situated between mature tissues. This unique positioning allows for the regeneration of plant parts, making it essential for the survival of species like Bamboo and Sugarcane in various environments.
