Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004
The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 was enacted in response to the September 11 attacks, aiming to improve the United States' intelligence capabilities. This legislation established the position of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) to oversee and coordinate the various intelligence agencies, enhancing information sharing and collaboration.
Additionally, the Act created the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) to focus on preventing terrorist attacks. It also included provisions for improving border security, enhancing the capabilities of law enforcement, and increasing funding for intelligence and counterterrorism efforts, thereby strengthening national security.
