Inner Ear Infections
Inner ear infections, also known as otitis media, occur when bacteria or viruses infect the space behind the eardrum. This can lead to symptoms such as ear pain, hearing loss, and sometimes fever. These infections are more common in children due to their shorter and more horizontal Eustachian tubes, which can trap fluid and bacteria.
Treatment for inner ear infections often includes antibiotics if bacteria are involved, or pain relievers to manage discomfort. In some cases, a doctor may recommend tympanostomy tubes to help drain fluid and prevent future infections. Most infections resolve without complications, but persistent cases may require further medical attention.
