Illyrian Language
The Illyrian language was an ancient language spoken by the Illyrians, a group of tribes in the western part of the Balkans. It is classified as a member of the Indo-European language family, but its exact classification remains uncertain due to limited evidence. Most of what we know comes from inscriptions, place names, and a few historical references.
Despite its significance, the Illyrian language is poorly documented, with only a handful of words and phrases surviving. It eventually became extinct as the region underwent cultural changes, particularly with the arrival of the Romans and the spread of Latin. Today, it remains a subject of interest for linguists and historians studying ancient Balkan cultures.
