Iliotibial Band Syndrome
Iliotibial Band Syndrome (ITBS) is a common overuse injury that affects the outer part of the knee. It occurs when the iliotibial band, a thick band of tissue running from the hip to the knee, becomes tight or inflamed. This can lead to pain, especially during activities like running or cycling, where repetitive knee movement is involved.
Symptoms of ITBS typically include sharp or burning pain on the outside of the knee, which may worsen with activity. Treatment often involves rest, ice, stretching, and strengthening exercises to improve flexibility and reduce inflammation. In some cases, physical therapy may be recommended for recovery.
