Iliac Arteries
The iliac arteries are major blood vessels that branch off from the abdominal aorta and supply blood to the lower part of the body. They are divided into two main branches: the right iliac artery and the left iliac artery. Each of these arteries further divides into the internal iliac artery, which supplies blood to the pelvic organs, and the external iliac artery, which continues down to supply the legs.
The iliac arteries play a crucial role in delivering oxygenated blood to the lower extremities and pelvic region. Proper blood flow through these arteries is essential for maintaining the health of the legs and reproductive organs. Blockages or issues in the iliac arteries can lead to serious health problems, including peripheral artery disease.
