House of Aviz
The House of Aviz was a royal dynasty that ruled Portugal from 1385 to 1580. It emerged after the Battle of Aljubarrota, which secured Portuguese independence from Castile. The house is known for its significant contributions to the Age of Discovery, including the exploration of new trade routes and territories.
Under the leadership of notable monarchs like King John I and King Manuel I, the House of Aviz expanded Portugal's influence globally. The dynasty ended with the death of King Henry, leading to the Portuguese succession crisis and the eventual union with Spain under the Habsburgs.
