Hisarlik
Hisarlik is an archaeological site located in northwestern Turkey, near the Dardanelles Strait. It is widely recognized as the possible location of the ancient city of Troy, which is famous for its role in Homer's epic poems, the Iliad and the Odyssey. Excavations at Hisarlik have revealed multiple layers of settlement, indicating that the site was inhabited for thousands of years.
The site has been excavated since the 19th century, primarily by Heinrich Schliemann, who believed he had discovered the ruins of Troy. Hisarlik consists of nine distinct layers, with the most significant being Troy VI and Troy VII, which date back to the late Bronze Age. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting visitors interested in ancient history and archaeology.
