Henry Vane, 1st Viscount Vane
Henry Vane, 1st Viscount Vane was an English politician and nobleman born in 1613. He served as a prominent member of the Long Parliament and was known for his strong Puritan beliefs. Vane played a significant role during the English Civil War, supporting the Parliament against the monarchy.
In 1650, Vane was appointed as the Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony in America, where he promoted religious freedom and fair governance. He returned to England in 1653 and continued to be involved in politics, but his influence waned after the restoration of the monarchy in 1660. Vane was executed in 1662 for his opposition to King Charles II.
